Rating: ★★★★

The first book in The Autumn Series, Autumn in the City of Angels, is a fantastic start to a fantastic series. The writing is superb and draws the reader into the story from the get go. The character development is perfect and allows the reader to develop a relationship with each character, whether it is a love or hate relationship. The story starts off as most apocalyptic stories do, with a plague that wipes most of humanity from the world. However, that is where most of the similarities end. Autumn in the City of Angels takes the reader on a journey with a young girl and her surrogate survivor family. The young girl happens upon a group that seems too good to be true. Of course it turns out that Autumn is correct and the group is out to rule not help.
The biggest surprise of this novel is the major twist thrown in around the middle of the book with one of its major characters. This twist may seem strange at first, but then you see how unique it truly makes this story. It is with this twist, that this novel truly separates itself from all of the other typical apocalyptic stories.
With the ending we receive in this novel I guarantee that readers will be left on the edge of their seats waiting for the next book. I myself can not wait to see what happens and to see how many more obstacles the characters can overcome and how Autumn will overcome an extremely difficult reality and continue to survive.
