Khel Milam's novella, "To Thee is This World Given", is extremely well written. I can see that Milam was going for a very thought provoking and philosophical take on the zombie apocalypse. The characters are intriguing, especially considering there is little to no background given. The novella is written in such a way that it is quite easy to finish the story in one sitting. I believe it is a story that deserves multiple readings in order to grasp the philosophical elements that Milam is attempting to showcase.
It is a very well written novella, but lacks some uniqueness in that it stays with the typical zombie apocalypse format and the typical obstacles that the characters face. However, at the same time, Milam shows that maybe the world has not changed all that much and that everything that is needed has always been available if one is willing to look and work for it.
This is certainly a novella worth reading and is worth reading multiple times in order to see the true message being delivered. I would recommend this to any zombie enthusiast who is looking for a philosophical take on the apocalypse.
