If you are looking for a series with amazing potential, then look no further than Jaq C. Reed's The Ungoverned. This is the perfect combination of some of the top dystopian novels out on the market for young adult readers. Jaq C. Reed creates a world reminiscent of The Hunger Games and Divergent and combines all the best and worst parts of each series.
I found it almost impossible to put this book down when I began to read it. If sleep was not necessary for everyday functioning, I am positive I would have stayed up all night to finish it in one sitting. Reed's writing style is very simplistic, which makes this book a real easy page turner. She is able to get her point across and describe the setting in such a way that you can still use your imagination to see exactly how this world developed and how easy it is to fall for its "perfection."
The character development is very well done and left you feeling like you knew each of the characters personally, even the minor ones. I must say I am looking forward to continuing this series to see how each character survives and overcomes the constant obstacles being thrown into their paths.
I highly recommend this book and any continuing books in the series to readers young and old. It is a great summer read and has the potential to be great!
